Sisimiut has many experiences to offer and they are easily accessible. There are abundant opportunities for fishing, hiking and cross country skiing, as well as dogsledding of course. If you want to do some slalom skiing, downhill racing or snowboarding, the lift is just outside town. You can also rent a snowmobile or try your hand at building your own igloo.
The northern lights can be experienced in Sisimiut throughout the six months of winter and this is also the season for holding the most difficult skiing event in the world, the Arctic Circle Race. The entire town rallies round the race, and even if you do not participate, you can experience the very unique atmosphere that the race brings to the town. The entrance to the old part of town is beautifully accentuated by a gateway made of whale jawbones, and if you do not have time for the extended trips, you can still make some interesting discoveries in a matter of hours. Because this is also the location of the Sisimiut Museum, the Blue Church, the vicarage and the shop. If you keep your eyes open, you can also see seals being flayed at the water's edge, kayakers practising in the bay, dogs being fed and the many fishermen returning home with the day's catch. In summer, you can jump into Greenland's only outdoor swimming pool. Moreover, Sisimiut's four-star hotel with conference centre and delightful rooms is a wonderful base for all the activities, especially by virtue of its restaurant. Calender for Sisimiut :
