Maniitsoq is known as the Venice of Greenland. The town is built on small islands and isthmuses interconnected by countless bridges, and like the famous town of northern Italy, this West Greenland town also has a romantic town centre. Maniitsoq revolves around the sea, and kayak daredevils will gladly demonstrate their abilities. It might be even more thrilling, however, to take a boat or kayak trip yourself around and through the town's many islands and isthmuses. The many rivers in the countryside surrounding Maniitsoq make it an angler's paradise, and the rolling landscape provides stimulating, challenging opportunities for both hiking and snowmobile safaris - depending on the time of year.
 
Only 25 kilometres from Maniitsoq lies one of the world's best summer ski resorts, Apussuit. Here you will find 350 km² of perfect skiing country from June to October. A pleasant atmosphere pervades Apussuit, and in summer it gets so warm that many ski in T-shirts and shorts. Since the summer nights are bright for a long time, you can always strap on your skis and hit the slopes.
